The Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox bounced back from a crushing 15-3 loss to the Orleans Firebirds with a 7-0 win against the Falmouth Commodores last night. The Cape Cod Baseball League announced Saturday that four Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox players have been selected to play in the All-Star Game at Eldredge Park Sunday, July 21. Austin Wells (Arizona) will start behind the plate, Wyatt Young (Pepperdine) will start at shortstop, Riley King (Georgia) will start at third base, and Noah Campbell (South Carolina) will be a reserve. Additionally, Red Sox Manager Scott Pickler will coach the East Division squad, since the Red Sox won the East Division in 2018.
Following an outstanding pitching performance against the Anglers, the Red Sox looked like a different team on Saturday night. The Orleans Firebirds had everything going for them, en route to a 15-3 victory over Y-D. It was ugly from the beginning, but hopefully the Sox can quickly forget about this one and put it behind them.n
Six days after throwing five scoreless innings in a 4-0 win against the Orleans Firebirds, Ledgend Smith (Oklahoma) retired the first 11 batters of the high-powered Chatham Anglers offense. Despite outhitting the Brewster Whitecaps 11 to 10 and striking out just twice, the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox dropped their third straight game, 7-4. Georgia Tech infielder Luke Waddell ? who played for the Red Sox last summer and temporarily this summer ? is tearing it up for Team USA, batting .364 at the top of the lineup.
The Red Sox lost their second game in a row on Tuesday night as they fell to the Gatemen 13-2. It?s becoming more clear by the day that the Sox are having a tough time catching their breath, as they have now played in 12 straight games and don?t have a scheduled off day until the All-Star game on July 21st.
Former Coca-Cola Pitcher of the Week John Beller (USC) wasn’t as sharp as usual last night, giving up five hits and three runs in four innings of work. Despite a comeback effort by the offense, the second-place Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox lost 4-2 to the last-place Harwich Mariners. Wyatt Young (Pepperdine) and Brad Beesley (Cal Poly San Luis Obispo) each had two hits, and Austin Wells (Arizona) extended his hit streak to seven games.
