The Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox saw their season come to an end Monday night at Red Wilson Field, as they fell to the Brewster Whitecaps, 9-7, in Game 2 of the Cape League Eastern Division Finals. Brewster won the best-of-three series, 2-0.
Y-D dropped the first game of the Eastern Division Finals to the Whitecaps on Sunday, putting the Sox on the brink of elimination.
Y-D lost the division title, but everything resets tonight as the CCBL playoffs get underway. Y-D begins a three-game series against Orleans.
Y-D’s winless streak extends to eight games, finishing in second place in the East division, setting up a first-round playoff matchup with Orleans.
The two teams battled to a 2-2 tie at Red Wilson Field Tuesday night, setting up one final chance for Y-D to win the division Wednesday night.
The Y-D Red Sox have now lost five straight, and while clinching the division once seemed inevitable, the Whitecaps inch closer.
