Y-D dropped the first game of the Eastern Division Finals to the Whitecaps on Sunday, putting the Sox on the brink of elimination.
Carrigg fired an electric, five-out save with four strikeouts to seal Y-D’s 8-4 win over the Orleans Firebirds in Game 2 of the First Round of the Cape Cod Baseball League Playoffs, completing a two-game sweep.
After eight crazy innings, the Y-D Red Sox lead the Orleans Firebirds 12-11. Play will resume tomorrow at 12 p.m. at Red Wilson Field.
Y-D’s winless streak extends to eight games, finishing in second place in the East division, setting up a first-round playoff matchup with Orleans.
The Y-D Red Sox have now lost five straight, and while clinching the division once seemed inevitable, the Whitecaps inch closer.
The Firebirds took a late lead on an RBI fielder’s choice in the seventh inning and never relinquished, handing the Red Sox a 4-1 defeat.
