Red Sox Announce Coaching Staff Additions

SOUTH YARMOUTH, Mass. ? The Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox and manager Scott Pickler have formally announced three additions to the team?s coaching staff for the 2014 season. Joining Y-D will be Roberto Mercado, Erich Pfohl, and Kyle Hallock.

Roberto Mercado

Roberto Mercado is currently the head coach at New Britain High School (Conn.) and, in his inaugural season at the helm (2011), helped lead his team to its first conference championship since 1984. In his time at New Britain, he has coached 13 All-Conference players and two who have received All-State honors. Aside from coaching the Hurricanes, Mercado previously coached the New Britain Fall Legion program and captured state titles in 2007, 2009, and 2010.

Erich Pfohl

Erich Pfohl serves Cal State Dominguez Hills in a number of capacities, most notably as an assistant baseball coach and as athletics facility coordinator. In his coaching role, Pfohl has helped the Toros recognize significant growth both on and off the field of play. Since his first season (2010), 12 former players have signed professional contracts, with several others receiving All-American and All-West Region honors. He also has previous experience coaching in summer collegiate baseball, having served as an assistant coach with the Mankato Moondogs of the Northwoods League.

Kyle Hallock

Hallock is a four-year letterwinner and 2011 graduate of Kent State University. He formerly spent time in the Houston Astros farm system as a pitcher, making nine appearances for the Oklahoma City RedHawks (AAA) in 2013. In his time as a player at Kent State, the Sandusky, Ohio native helped lead the Golden Flashes to four consecutive Mid-American Conference Championships. Hallock also founded Pirate Pitching Camp in 2011, which has helped develop over 60 pitchers since its inception.

The Red Sox begin the 2014 season in just under a month?on the evening of June 11?when the squad takes on the Harwich Mariners in a 7 p.m. road opener from Whitehouse Field.
