Preview of Friday’s game against the Orleans Firebirds(6/12)

Lyndsey Armacost // Y-D Red Sox

SOUTH YARMOUTH ? After facing the Orleans Firebirds last night at Eldredge Field, the Red Sox know what they are dealing with coming into today?s matchup. The Sox need to find a way to score runs and, to do that, the lineup needs to start producing. Sox starting pitcher Daniel Zamora, a junior at Stonybrook University, will need to find a neutralize the middle of the Firebirds? lineup who had the big fourth inning against Brett Adcock last night. With the power in that Firebird lineup, Zamora will need to be able to rely on his defense, especially in the infield where they have been struggling. If the Red Sox are able to make some good contact at the plate and can find a way to minimize the damage of Karl Lewis and Colby Woodmansee they have a shot at their first win of the season tonight. Players to watch: Connor Wong

Look to see how Wong does playing second base. He has been moved around the infield between second, shortstop, and third in the past three games, committing errors at all three positions. Hopefully Wong is able to start a string of good games that will make him more confident in the field moving forward.

Mike Donadio: Their most reliable player at the plate so far this season, will he have another big game at the plate? With nobody else stepping up for the Sox in the lineup, they will need more than just a big game from Donadio at the plate to get a win. Look to Stephen Wrenn and Donnie Walton, two veterans of the Cape League, and Cole Billingsley to get something going at the top of the lineup.

Tommy Edman: Edman, a junior at Stanford University, was declared eligble to play in tonight?s matchup with the Orleans Firebirds for the first time this season. An infielder, Edman might see some action tonight amid the Sox?s defensive struggles.
