Despite a tie with Harwich in the two teams’ final meeting of the summer and a loss to Hyannis at Dunkin’ Donuts Park in Hartford, the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox managed to win each of their next two games to move within a point of clinching a playoff berth, and six points away from clinching the East Division title.
After a 4-1-1 week, the Y-D Red Sox have an eight-point lead atop the East division and are looking for a strong push over the final four games before the All-Star break.
The Sox struggled late in the week, but remain in first place in the East division thanks to three wins early in the week. A look at that and more around the Cape from the past seven days.
After a comeback victory against Bourne, the Sox fell to Orleans before rattling off wins against Chatham and Cotuit and sweeping Falmouth in a doubleheader on Sunday.
In his twenty-fourth season at the helm of the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox, Scott Pickler now stands alone on the Cape Cod Baseball League coaching mountaintop.
Despite starting the season 0-3-1, the Red Sox went 3-0-1 over their next four games once the bats got going. Through those first four games, the Red Sox put up just six runs. In the next four, they scored 22 times.
